Rome Monument has been a leader in the cemetery monument and memorial industry in the United States since 1934.
A mausoleum is the structure or building that holds the remains of one or more people in crypts, which are containers for a single casket.
Two Crypt stand-alone mausoleums start at a cost of $26,000
Vestibule walk-in mausoleums with a bronze door for two people starts at $95,000
The following will impact the price of a private mausoleum
Variables that Influence Private Mausoleum Cost in 2025
Style - Private mausoleums generally can be built as a non-walk-in or a walk-in. Non-walk-in private mausoleums are structures that do not provide a means in which one can physically enter the structure. Access to the crypts and/or cremation niches is found on the exterior of the structure. Walk-in private mausoleums allow one to enter the structure traditionally through a bronze door. The interior space can range from very small such is found in a vestibule private mausoleum or very vast and open. Access to the crypts and/or cremation niches is on the interior of the mausoleum or a combination of both on the interior and exterior. A non-walk-in mausoleum is generally more economical than a walk-in mausoleum.
Granite - Not all granite in the world was created equal. A reputable mausoleum builder such as Rome Monument will only use granite that will not cause future issues with the mausoleum. Different colors and finishes of the granite will impact the cost in a private mausoleum.
Construction Standards - The process of selecting a private mausoleum engineer and builder is not unlike selecting a contractor to build your home. Each contractor will have different standards as to which they uphold which will need to be examined. As mentioned above the granite used for a private mausoleum is one standard along with but not limited to: the sizes of the joints between the pieces (smaller the better), the thickness of the granite used, the number of pieces of granite to complete a section of a mausoleum (for example one solid piece of granite for a wall or column is better than multiple pieces glued together), etc.
Roof Design - The style of roof selected can have a major impact on the final cost. Roof styles range from flat, gable, chapel, and domed. A chapel and domed roof can either be flat on the interior of a walk-in private mausoleum or vaulted for a more open feel.
Architectural Selections - Elements such as roof moldings, style of columns and the use of decorative corner pilasters will influence the overall cost of a private mausoleum.
Installation - Distance (freight) from the quarry, your lot selection within the cemetery (a roadside lot with no obstructions will keep the installation cost down in terms of the size of the crane needed), and the length of the installation (some installations can take a few hours while others will take weeks) will impact the final price of a private mausoleum.

Factors That Affect the Cost of a Headstone, Cemetery Memorial, Monument Or Mausoleum
Every memorial we make is custom to decisions that each family that we have the privilege to work with will make in regards to:
Size
Color of granite
Quality of granite
Style
Texture
Craftsmanship
Installation and Shipping
Set a budget and we will design within that budget.
What is the perfect size memorial?
A “standard” memorial size does not exist. As a result, we encourage all of our families to measure memorials in the cemetery prior to selecting a size so that they are viewing the memorial in its natural setting. Memorials look larger in our displays than they will look outside.
What color and quality is the granite?
Granite comes in different varieties, colors, and grades. It is sourced from domestic and international quarries, each with unique characteristics and variations in durability and color. Granite’s “grade” or quality is a measure of the material’s durability, density, structural integrity, consistency, suitability for cutting, crafting and finishing. More durable varieties of granite are best for crafting memorials, and higher grade, highly durable, highly consistent granite varieties are typically higher priced - because they will not absorb moisture, will not discolor and will not fade. More common and readily available granite varieties and colors are usually priced lower (more supply). Harder to find granite varieties and colors are often priced higher. Source location and shipping distance also affects price.
The quarries we rely on in the United States and Canada are rigorously selected for high durability and rich color. Different quarries yield different mineral compositions in the stones, accounting for variations in durability and color.
What is the style and texture of the memorial?
We have our own in house artists that can create any style of memorial you desire. The more complex the shape of the memorial the higher the cost. In addition, the shape of the memorial can be finished in many different textures such as polished, tiffany, sawn, rustic, blued, etc., that can change the cost of the memorial.
What is the craftsmanship level?
The range of custom memorial and headstone design options is limited only by your imagination and your cemetery’s limitations and rules. Most any artistic design can be carved into granite or crafted into bronze. Granite carving processes can be simple or complex, one-dimensional or multi-dimensional. Higher priced monuments usually include complex artwork, portraits, laser etching, hand etching, porcelain portraits, artistic carving, detailed imagery, and custom designs. The simpler the craftsmanship level selected, the lower the memorial price.
